THE Dounreay site was closed on Wednesday as a mark of respect following the death of interim managing director Steve Beckitt. He was 55.

Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) chairman Simon Bowen said: “We are very sad to confirm the unexpected passing of our friend and colleague Steve Beckitt.

"Steve played an incredibly important part in the work at Dounreay, and his leadership, commitment and passion was an inspiration to his colleagues on the site and across the industry. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve’s partner, family and friends.

“The site was closed on Wednesday as a mark of respect and to support the welfare of our staff.”
