‘Do you want to go to prison?’ sheriff asks Wick man

A Wick man who failed to pay a fine and complete unpaid work imposed as a substitute sentence was warned by a sheriff that he faces a jail term if he doesn’t do as he’s told.

Sheriff Neil Wilson conceded that he couldn’t force Jared Robinson (25) to do the work – “it’s up to you.”

But the sheriff, speaking at Wick last week, added: “One sentence I can impose is a prison one. Do you want to go to prison?”

Robinson, of Macrae Street, Wick, replied: “No.”

Sheriff Wilson revoked the current work order and replaced it with one of 150 hours, putting the alternative on the line for the offshore worker: “If you don’t do the work, you will go to prison.”

The accused’s progress will be reviewed in three months.
