The minimum opening bid has been set at £98,000.

Built in 1802 as a hunting lodge and set within two acres of land, the hotel closed some years ago.

In its heyday it mainly catered for anglers along with those seeking outdoor activity breaks.

Owner and staff accommodation are included in the sale.

A description of the property given by the auction house states: "Recent times have not been so kind, and the property has fallen into disrepair both internally and externally with a full programme of works required to return it to its former glory.

"This does, however, offer an exciting opportunity to add massive value to the property and once again take advantage of the many visitors who continue to enjoy this area of natural beauty."

The hotel is being sold "on behalf of mortgagees not in possession" and no internal viewings are available.

The window of opportunity to make a bid extends for a 24-hour period, ending at 1pm on Tuesday, December 7. Anyone interested in purchasing the hotel must register to bid.
