POLICE are looking into a potential deer poaching ring operating in the far north after more than a dozen stag heads with antlers intact were found behind an abandoned croft.

The grim discovery at Baligill, near Strathy, comes as Police Scotland launches anti-deer poaching patrols in Caithness and north Sutherland to clamp down on illegal activity.

The 12 heads were discovered by a member of the public travelling through the area on Sunday.
