Delay to new bin rollout in Caithness

Householders in Caithness will have to wait a bit longer before their new recycle bins arrive, announced Highland Council.

The Caithness rollout will now commence at the end of October 2024, said a council spokesperson yesterday.

“This has been amended for reasons of operational bin distribution and to align with the completion of the construction work being carried out to modify the Seater waste transfer station building ahead of the changes to recycling collections,” they added.

The new arrangements are being introduced in the county after being trialled in Ross-shire and Dornoch first.

Highland Council is altering the collections so that recyclable material is split into two wheelie bins, while waste for landfill will go into a new, smaller bin.

Residents will receive a letter letting them know when their new bin is arriving and when their new collections start, states the local authority.

The new grey non-recyclable waste bin will be delivered with a detailed information booklet explaining the changes and what to put in each bin.

A new collection calendar will also be provided with the booklet.
