Foundation Scotland is keen to remind residents of both the Watten and Tannach community council areas that the next deadline for their education and training schemes is at the end of this month.

Eilidh Coll, Foundation Scotland’s local representative, said: “There are now a number of education and training funds in Caithness and the various community fund panels have been able to help people take positive training steps in a range of educational settings and subjects.

"The funding available can cover course fees, essential equipment or any costs directly linked to the course, although at the moment due to the pandemic we’ve seen a number of people apply for textbooks which they would usually have been able to source through a library, or laptops to better enable working from home.”

The Innogy Bad á Cheò Education and Training Fund is open to individuals over 16 in the Watten Community Council area with a closing date of June 30, with decisions made by the Watten Charitable Windfarm Trust Panel in August.

The Tannach and District Education and Training Fund is funded through the Gresham House Wathegar Wind Farms. It is open to individuals over 16 in the Tannach and District Community Council area with the same closing date of June 30.

Decisions on these awards are made by the Tannach and District Charitable Wind Farm Trust.

Both of these community fund panels have vacancies for new community members to join.

“Being part of the awards process can be very rewarding and most people really enjoy their time on the panel," Eilidh said.

"We’d be really keen to welcome anybody who might be interested. At the moment we are holding all our meetings over online or teleconferencing facilities and it has been going very well.”
