A group of cyclists from Derbyshire pushed themselves for their annual charity challenge by completing a Land's End to John O'Groats trip in just eight days.

Members of the South Peaks Cycle Club (SPCC) have been taking on yearly challenges since 2019 when they completed a 150-mile ride. In 2020 they upped that to 200 miles, riding to Wales and back in a day, and in 2021 they took on the Band of Climbers toughest 100km challenge whilst also completing their own variant a little closer to home.

For 2022 the SPCC team decided to ramp it up a bit and ride from Lands End to John O'Groats in eight days, averaging approximately 120 miles-a-day and taking in a "serious amount of elevation".

Arriving at John O'Groats on Tuesday afternoon, the cyclists were delighted to have hit their target of eight days in the saddle.

Team member Dan Swain said: Given that it's just about the longest ride one can do in Britain, we thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to raise money for two amazing charities; Dementia UK and the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.

"Cycling is an amazing and environmentally friendly method of exploring local wildlife; a way of experiencing the smells, sounds, and sights that come with a rich and diverse countryside. This is why we are so keen on contributing to the continuation of the great work that the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust do."

The SPCC thanked kit sponsors HUUB and the other main sponsors Vibrant Doors, Curtis Wright Surface Technologies, Royal Mail, and UK Bike Fit.
