AS part of Red Nose Day staff and pupils at Pennyland Primary in Thurso held a cupcake competition.

The children were invited to decorate a cupcake and enter it into their class competition.

Gary Reid, from Reids of Caithness, visited the school last Monday and demonstrated some icing techniques and ideas for each class.

On Friday he returned to judge the winner from each class. Each winner received a prize and on Friday afternoon the winning cakes were displayed for everyone to see.

The school also held a bring-and-buy and baking sale which was very well attended.

Fiona MacDonald, of Pennyland, said: "We were overwhelmed by the kind donations of baking from parents and relatives!

"Each child in the school has also made a 3D money box which they will return to school after the Easter holidays with any spare change they can gather.

"We are also holding a disco on Friday with all money going towards Comic Relief. So far we have raised over £800 but we expect our final total to be in the region of £1000."
