MORE than 900 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in NHS Highland since the coronavirus pandemic began.

The cumulative number of cases in the region rose 12 to 902 when the latest daily update was published at 2pm.

There were 1456 positive tests recorded across Scotland in the past 24 hours – although, as in recent days, the Scottish Government has warned that this figure may have been affected by delayed testing at the weekend.

The recent increase in hospitalisations continued, with a further 70 people receiving treatment in the country's hospitals last night. The overall number of people requiring hospital treatment in Scotland now stands at 824.

Of those, some 69 people were in intensive care with the virus – up eight from yesterday.

And, sadly, a further 15 people who tested positive for the virus have subsequently died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, no new cases of Covid-19 were detected in NHS Eileanan Siar.

But fellow archipelago health boards, NHS Shetland and NHS Orkney, each recorded one fresh positive test to see their cumulative tallies rise to 64 and 27 respectively.

NHS Grampian detected 54 new infections, taking its overall number beyond 3000 to 3016.

And NHS Tayside's cumulative number of cases rose 63 to 3339.

There have now been 49,164 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.
