TWENTY-ONE new cases of Covid-19 were identified in the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The cumulative number of cases recorded across the health board area since the start of the pandemic rose to 1057 when the latest daily update was published.

The increase means that more than 400 cases have now been identified across the full NHS Highland region since the end of September.

There were 1281 new positive tests across Scotland in the past day. The number of people in Scottish hospitals who were receiving treatment for the virus rose by 18 to 1170. Of those, some 83 were in intensive care – down three from yesterday.

But, sadly, there were 28 further deaths among people who had tested positive for Covid-19.

In the north of Scotland, there were no new cases recorded in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

NHS Grampian, meanwhile, saw its cumulative total rise 30 to 3324.

And NHS Tayside saw its tally rise 89 to 4055.

There have now been 62,812 confirmed cases of Covid-19 recorded across Scotland since the pandemic began.
