Council warns of snow on all Caithness routes today
With snow affecting routes around the county, Highland Council has issued a winter road conditions report for today (Tuesday, November 19).
Issued at 7.53am, the report for Caithness states: “Up to an inch of snow on nearly all routes this morning and stretches of ice on secondary routes.
“All routes being treated as necessary. No other known issues to report.”
The Sutherland report issued at 8.27am says: “Low temperatures all over with accumulations of snow from 1" to 5" inland. All routes treated accordingly with treatment continuing throughout the morning. No known overnight issues.”
The council states that the information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Maps of the council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for Caithness that is in place until 10am Wednesday and warns of snow and ice which “could cause disruptions on roads and rail”.
