Paying homage to a firm Halloween favourite, Jay Barrett from Lyth proudly holds his home-grown monster pumpkin in a photograph sent in by his father Paul.

Paul wondered if his son's effort was worthy of a local record as it weighed in at a whopping 18.5kg.

Paul said: "It's just a bit of fun but could it be the largest pumpkin grown in Caithness?"

"Jay grew it in our polytunnel at Lyth from the seed of a large pumpkin from his nan in Essex. Don't know if it will be eaten or carved yet."

Any readers driving by Lyth should keep an eye out for a monster jack-o'-lantern in the area.
