CONFIRMED coronavirus cases in the Highlands have reached triple figures after three further people tested positive for Covid-19.

The news means that the NHS Highland area now has 102 confirmed cases, although health experts have warned that the true figure will likely be much higher.

The number who have tested positive across Scotland as a whole is now 3961. The figure is up 255 on yesterday. More than 24,000 people have been tested.

The number of people who have died now stands at 222 – up two on the same point yesterday – although the Scottish Government has warned that the introduction of a new process for reporting Covid-19 deaths means that number "may not be fully representative of developments at the weekend" and will probably lead to a jump when some of those figures are added in a day or so.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, the number of cases in the NHS Grampian area rose by 15 to 209, while cases remained static in Shetland (41), Orkney (4) and the Western Isles (4).

Greater Glasgow and Clyde has the highest total of positive cases in Scotland at 984.
