Entries are still being taken for a virtual flower show which is being held online this year following the cancellation of the Caithness County Show.

Flower show convener Avril Henderson said that entries were starting to come in with lots of folk trying to get pictures of their best blooms.

She explained that, because the show was later than it normally would be, some of the flowers would not still be at their best.

"We originally wanted to do something the weekend of the show, but it took longer to get everything together," Avril said.

"We spoke to our committee and put out a few feelers and everyone thought it was quite a good idea. People were quite disappointed the show didn't go ahead."

She added: "It is just a bit of fun, there is no actual judging or results. We have already had folk who do not normally put flowers to the show, so that is quite good."

The catalogue for the virtual competition is the same as normal apart from the floral art classes which, due to the costs involved, are not going ahead as usual – instead exhibitors can put any floral art they choose.

Those wishing to take part just need to visit the Caithness County Show Virtual Flower Show page on Facebook where they will find posts with all the different classes.

Once a photo is taken of their entry they just need to add it to the comments in the appropriate post. Flowers can be pictured as they are out in the garden or in a vase.

So far the rose section has been the most popular, with 25 photos in the single stem class and 13 in the hybrids.

Entries close on Monday, August 24, and a full schedule can also be found on www.caithnessshow.co.uk
