CAITHNESS civic leader Willie Mackay is urging members of the public to go along to Saturday's Your Cash Your Caithness event and have their say on which community groups get the money they are requesting.

Representatives of 25 local organisations will pitch their projects before a public audience in Thurso High School in a bid to secure enough votes to give them a share of a £10,000 pot of cash.

Councillor Mackay, who represents Wick and East Caithness on Highland Council, and who will be compering the event, said: "I am very impressed by the variety of applications coming from all around the county and I would encourage anyone interested in the participatory budgeting process to come along to give their support and make their votes count.

"Each group will have three minutes to pitch for funding, with a further two minutes to answer questions from the audience."

Voting is open to anyone aged 14 and over. The event starts at 10am in the school's main hall.

Councillor Willie Mackay will be compering the sixth Your Cash Your Caithness event in Thurso on Saturday.
