Thurso Community Café is getting into the spirit of Christmas by offering a couple of events to help raise funds to update the kitchen.

The first activity is a children's cupcake decorating session this Saturday afternoon which was inspired by cafe volunteer Kirsty Brock who thought it would be a great idea to let youngsters come together and get creative while having fun. Sessions are free with everything provided for the children just to come along and make their own wonderful decorated cupcake from 3.30pm.

The second event, which is open to all, will be the Christmas buffet on December 17, at 7pm. On the menu is some amazing food, including puddings and a raffle will be held to end the evening.

Volunteer Ann Brock said: "With many people suffering from isolation over the festive period this is a great way for people to meet new folk and socialise."

The café is offering transport to anyone struggling with mobility issues, and Pauline Reid Millar, of Pets as Therapy, has been busy arranging the raffle for the evening.

The team at the local café are excited about December and are looking forward to holding the free activities which will help raise funds to improve their kitchen and “keep them cooking”. Although there is no charge for the events, any donations towards the improvements will be most welcome.

Located at Thurso harbour, the café gives people suffering from isolation, social and financial hardship the opportunity to come and socialise in a dignified friendly setting and operates a policy of “no obligation to pay" for all food.

Food dignity is a common issue for much of the UK and the café offers a safe setting for all, keeping everyone’s dignity intact through complete discretion for any donation given.

Anyone interested in going along to either of the events should make a booking first. For more information call 07894 495693. The café also has a Facebook page.
