Wick and Thurso care home residents celebrate after staff member cooks up a charity treat
Residents and staff at Seaview House and Pentland View care homes in Wick and Thurso are celebrating after a successful fundraising drive by one of their employees.
Fiona Fagan, managing director of Barchester’s Scotland and North East Division, raised a total of £24,595 after participating in the annual Barchester Charitable Fundraiser.
Despite not winning the Charitable Foundation event itself, Fiona’s cooking efforts, namely a lemon sole veronique with shallot and mushroom sauce and a lemon cheesecake with citrus shortbread, were highly praised by judging panel, made up of Barchester’s executive team.
General manager of Pentland View and Seaview House care homes, Gayle Magennis said: “We are all so proud of Fiona for taking part in this challenge, she really is amazing – is there nothing she can’t do! Her dishes looked absolutely fantastic and she raised so much for the Foundation, we think she is an absolute super star.”
The annual Barchester Charitable Foundation event attracts a large number of donations every year. The foundation is dedicated to helping improve the lives of its users by distributing thousands of pounds across its care homes in an effort to raise quality of life and living standards, as well as developing close and active connections between clients and their local community.
The amount raised by last year’s Barchester Charitable Foundation event event totalled £225,000, and allowed the organisation to help finance 160 charities and small groups of people - as well as providing additional supportive needs to 87 individuals across the space of the year.
