Sheriff Neil Wilson was told that the 26-year-old gave a positive roadside test after he was stopped by police in Harbour Road, Castletown. A follow-up analysis of a blood sample revealed a level of 7mcg – the legal limit is 2mcg – for Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said that Connor, of Macrae Street, Wick, appreciated that as a cannabis user he should not have been driving.

Sheriff Wilson gave the accused credit for his early plea but made the point that his drug reading was “relatively high”.
