The Caithness virtual flower show, which has already received over 200 entries, has been extended to run for another week due to popular demand.

Speaking on Monday – which was to have been the original closing date – flower show convener Avril Henderson said: "The response has been great so far. Entries have been coming in all day."

With the late flurry of photographs being posted to the online event the committee has decided to continue the show until the end of the month – Monday, August 31.

Avril said: "It has been great seeing everybody's lovely flowers and plants and seeing all their hard work over lockdown – they can now reap the rewards of it."

As of Monday afternoon the classes that were proving most popular were the Gardens of 2020 and the single rose sections, both sharing 42 entries.

The virtual flower show is being held online this year following the cancellation of the Caithness County Show.

Although there has been a great interest in the event there are not as many entries as there would usually be in the flower tent at the actual show.

Avril explained: "We thought we would do this because a lot of people like looking through all the flowers on show day."

As the event is just being run for fun, there is no actual judging or results.

Those still wishing to take part should visit the Caithness County Show Virtual Flower Show page on Facebook where they will find posts with all the classes.

Once a photo is taken of their entry they just need to add it to the comments in the appropriate post. Flowers can be pictured as they are out in the garden or in a vase.
