Caithness schools closed ahead of Storm Eowyn
Secondary schools in Caithness will be closed tomorrow (January 24) ahead of Storm Eowyn.
Both Wick and Thurso high schools posted bulletins stating that the risks involved due to the storm led to their decisions.
Wick High School stated in its online blog: “We have taken the decision to close the school to staff and pupils tomorrow, Friday 24th January. This is due to the predicted weather conditions caused by Storm Eowyn and the risks involved in this.
“We will revert to an online model of learning where resources will be issued via Google Classroom following the normal timetable.
“The planned prelim examinations, National 5 and Higher Graphic Communication and Higher Application of Maths will be rearranged for Tuesday 28th January.”
Thurso High School has followed suit stating: “Due to the fairly extreme forecast tomorrow of high winds we have taken the decision today that the school will be shut tomorrow, Friday, 24 January to all pupils and staff. All work for classes will be delivered via Google Classroom. Pupils are expected to complete all work set.
“We will reschedule the prelims that were due to run tomorrow and let everyone know as soon as possible of the new date and times.
“Senior Phase courses at UHI’s Thurso Campus will also not be running.”
Highland Council had no updates on the status of the county’s primary schools at the time of going to press.
