Caithness residents warned over cash vouchers scam
POLICE are urging people in Caithness to be vigilant following a reported scam involving "UKCASH" vouchers.
A North woman was phoned by someone claiming to be from the Ministry of Justice saying that she was due unpaid interest on a bank account.
She was asked on several occasions to purchase UKCASH vouchers for significant sums (some in four figures), which she was promised would be reimbursed when the bank released the money for the unpaid interest.
No cheque ever arrived and police were contacted.
Officers are now urging members of the public to ignore such calls and report any activity to them on 0845 600 5703 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Any calls people may receive in relation to bank accounts should be treated with extreme caution and police recommend contacting your bank to ensure such approaches are genuine before entering into any financial transactions.
