Caithness residents are urged to keep their guard up in the fight to tackle the current coronavirus pandemic.

Thurso and Halkirk Medical Practice GP, Dr Alison Brooks, said: "I think that people in Caithness have been, on the whole, very sensible about Covid.

"There is the great risk of complacency when we are so far removed from the numbers in the central belt but the Caithness people have remained vigilant."

Commenting on local figures, she said: "There have been several cases, across the county, including Halkirk, Thurso, Wick and the coast – in all of the cases, to the best of my knowledge, the individuals affected have behaved responsibly in order to protect others."

She added: "We all need to keep our guard up in order to keep those more vulnerable safe. The kindness and genuine support of the Caithness people continues and it’s this that will get us out the other end.

"I think it’s particularly important to remember those who are elderly and alone and also those with mental health issues as these individuals have been particularly badly affected. If anywhere can do it, Caithness can."
