A Caithness firm has been shortlisted in this year's Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards after building up a "quality relationship" with energy company Statkraft.

Blargoans, an industrial supplier that services oil, gas, nuclear and renewable energy clients, is among the contenders in the Outstanding Service category of the awards.

The nomination came from Statkraft, a fellow member of Caithness Chamber of Commerce. It is Blargoans' first shortlisting for the award.

Martin Nicolson, managing director at Blargoans, said: “Our long-standing partnership with Statkraft has gone from strength to strength since it began with us supplying consumables such as protective equipment when Baillie Wind Farm became operational in 2013.

"This nomination is testament to the quality relationship we have built with Statkraft over the years. We thank them for their support and are now looking forward to the awards night.”

The continued relationship with Statkraft, as well as other businesses across Caithness and Sutherland, has allowed Blargoans to flourish even during the toughest times of Covid-19.

Statkraft assistant site manager Marc Ross said: “The close proximity of Blargoans to the Baillie Wind Farm enables them to provide services at very short notice and they were able to do this even at the height of lockdown. This is one of the many benefits of working with local suppliers.

"We are extremely pleased to have nominated the company for the award and congratulate them on being shortlisted.”

The Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards for 2021 will take place in Edinburgh on December 2.
