Local artists are being given an opportunity to showcase their work throughout December in an online exhibition.

It is the latest venture by the Society of Caithness Artists and is entitled Reaching Out. Any artist with a Caithness connection can visit the society’s website to upload images of up to four pieces of artwork.

Society chairman Ian Pearson explained: “Our first online exhibition was in the summer and replaced our physical annual exhibition. This was the first time the society had organised such an event and the response was fantastic, with online visitors across the world congratulating the society on how well the exhibition was arranged and formatted.

“We even had other art societies complimenting us on the appearance of the show, and all this positivity meant we just had to respond in similar fashion and organise an exhibition for the end of the year.

“The title of this event, Reaching Out, really sums up what we feel is most appropriate at this time as people are feeling more and more vulnerable with their emotions and welcome any type of comfort.”

Ian says he firmly believes that art can help in this way.

Artists can upload their images now by visiting https://societyofcaithnessartists.co.uk

The site will accept submissions up until 9am on November 12, with the exhibition going live for free access to visitors from December 1 until December 31.

There is a £10 membership for artists, allowing each to submit images of up to four pieces of work.

Ian said: “The exhibition will be made freely available across the world to all who wish to enjoy seeing the artists’ creations and it can be revisited countless times. Following on the success of the previous exhibition, the society agreed not to charge artists any commissions for sales.

“A lot of effort has enabled a very user-friendly experience.”

Ian added: “Our online annual exhibition was made possible by the dedication of local web design business Caithness Creative Design so it seemed obvious to continue with someone who has the experience to realise the society’s desires.”
