A FUNDRAISING event is taking place in Thurso this weekend to benefit two local bodies.

The event at the Weigh Inn Hotel tomorrow will raise money for Thurso Sea Cadets and Thurso Lifeboat.

The cadets are looking for financial help to purchase a safety boat which costs £20,000.

The vessel would enable them to undertake activities in Thurso Bay to assist in their seamanship, skills and safety on the water.

Thurso Lifeboat events co-ordinator Brian Fenlon said: “We are proud to be part of this fundraiser as it is important that sea safety is instilled in people out on the water. Money raised will also go towards the running costs of the Thurso Lifeboat which is £4100 a week.

“We have the Caithness Big Band providing musical entertainment. Tickets are still available from Thurso Sea Cadets or Thurso Lifeboat station or e-mail brianfenlon@hotmail.co.uk or you can pay on the door.”

Tickets are £15 each and include a buffet meal. There will also be a raffle and an auction.
