Traffic Scotland has confirmed that “all lanes are now running as normal” after a collision closed the A9 in both directions just south of Thurso earlier this morning.

The incident happened at 07.33 near Shalmstry – about two and a half miles from the town – leading to the closure.

Police arrived at the scene and about an hour later one lane was opened, another hour after that around 09.30 the road was fully reopened.

The Met Office has a yellow weather warning for ice and snow with the potential for “icy stretches” making for potentially treacherous driving conditions but the local temperature is above zero.
