Bower Young Farmers take the runner-up spot at Highland Rally

Bower Young Farmers were delighted to claim the overall second place in the Highland Rally held by the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs at the Black Isle Showfield at the weekend.

Club chairman, Angus Brims, led a team of 22 members down to compete on Saturday (July 17), where there were six teams from across the Highlands taking part in a number of events throughout the day.

Baking and industrial entries were set up for judging in the morning, along with display boards featuring a variety of items with the theme – The Scottish Larder.

Bower members went on to see success in the the sheep demonstration competition, with Alistair McCarthy taking top spot. Following this, there was a variety of competitions happening including feed identification, a farm business quiz, practical construction, telehandler driving and flower arranging.

In the afternoon, the Bower contingent participated in netball, touch rugby and tug-of-war matches and did very well in each game they played. The day ended with a barbecue kindly sponsored by the NFU and a presentation of prizes.

Club secretary Beth Douglas said: "Bower Young Farmers were delighted to be overall runners-up and take home a very respectable and hard worked for second place.

"Members enjoyed the day out after a year away from their usual activities due to Covid restrictions and enjoyed getting back to competing, all members did their club very proud."
