A LARGE shirt-sleeve crowd basked in the sun at Saturday’s annual Bower Gala which had its usual programme of fun activities, stalls and attractions for all ages.

Local Highland councillor Willie Mackay took the official wraps off the festivities which were based in and around the community centre.

A dog show and stock-judging were among the setpiece events, together with a display of Highland dancing, a barbecue, a bouncy castle and a grand raffle.

The afternoon programme was followed by the Bower Big Bale Push. Billed as the first official Scottish National Bale Push Championships, it was organised by community stalwarts Chris Irwin, Billy MacAdie, Claire Henderson and Tracy Alexander.

The event turned out to be a great success with eight hardy ladies’ and gents’ teams having to push a wrapped bale of hay weighing 248 kilos around the specially prepared zig-zag track.
