Police searching for a missing woman in Wick have announced that a body has been found.

Officers said on Sunday that the body of a woman had been found in the Murchison Street area of the town shortly after noon.

The body has yet to be formally identified but police added that the next of kin of Victoria Streight, a 31-year-old who had been reported missing in the area yesterday, has been informed.

She was last seen at around 7.30am on Saturday in the Wellington Street area.

A spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course."
