Beavers from 1st Wick Scout Group have been busy keeping the environment tidy by collecting litter in a local park – and are now looking forward to their first post-lockdown camp.

The youngsters joined together for a litter pick on Wednesday at the Green Road play park near their base in Wick. This was to help them achieve their community impact badge.

On the weekend of May 28/29 a Beaver Damboree will be held at Watten village hall, open to all the Beavers in Caithness and Sutherland. It is the first camp since emerging from Covid lockdown and it will be the first time many of the Beavers have slept in a tent.

Damboree grew out of the drive to ensure Beavers, and Beaver leaders, could camp.

Christine Waples, the Beaver leader for 1st Wick Scout Group and assistant district commissioner for Beavers for the Caithness and Sutherland district, said: "The Beavers were very surprised about finding what sort of things people litter.

"Parents and carers of children who wish to become members of the Scouting movement can contact the group via the 1st Wick Scout Group Facebook page where they will be put in contact with a section leader."
