Twenty-year-old Megan Baker from Barrock said she was delighted to have achieved a gold Young Equestrian Leaders Award (Yela).

After years of hard work, from mucking out stables in all weathers to being a groom and after many hours of volunteering work, Megan thanks everyone who helped and supported her along the way.

Megan’s Yela journey also took her down the more fun side of horse riding. She was a member of the Horsin’ Around stable at Lyth and started her lessons on, what ended up being her "lifetime favourite pony", Princess Saffron. Megan still pops in to see Saffron despite the pony now being retired.

Owner of Horsin' Around stable, Natalie Oag, said: "Over the years, Megan and Saffron formed a perfect partnership, going on to win many showjump competitions including championships and gymkhana games championships. Together, the pair were impossible to beat.

"She decided to go down the route of exams and passed many on Saffron as well. Megan loved Saffron dearly, and was very loyal to her, never favouring any others. They had a lovely relationship and Saffron adored Megan back – it was the perfect partnership."

Megan said the Yela was an "amazing experience" and helped set her up for the adult world and life in general.

She also did a charity climb up Morven with Natalie and other Horsin' Around girls, alongside stable mascot Louis the chihuahua.

Natalie said: "Megan was a model pupil, always eager to please, not afraid of hard work or getting her hands dirty and loved being part of a team. She's a very talented young rider and I'm proud to say Megan was my pupil."
