A Castletown man is alleged to have seized an axe at his home in the village and threatened self-harm, in the presence of police officers.

Matthew Frere denied threatening or abusive behaviour at Wick Sheriff Court on Tuesday, and was remanded, pending his trial on July 26.

The charge accuses the 30-year-old of shouting and swearing, acting in an aggressive manner, seizing an axe and threatening to harm himself if Constables Dwid Benecki and Jonathon Wilkin didn't leave his home on Mackay Street.

The incident is said to have occurred there on Monday.
