A Thurso woman has raised £825 for Maggie's Highlands – that was matched by local company Ashley Ann – after setting herself a demanding running challenge.

Keen to fundraise for her favourite charity, Cassy Birkhauser decided to run a total of 50 miles over the period of a month.

However, with no real experience in long distance running, Stephen Bremner, founder and chairman of Ashley Ann and who happens to be a keen runner, volunteered to coach and support her.

This mainly took the form of joining her for early morning runs back in January, and continued until the total of 50 miles was completed.

With over £800 raised by Cassy, Ashley Ann matched the amount with a total of £1650 being donated to Maggie’s Highlands.

And the connection between Stephen and Cassy – she’s engaged to be married to Scott Bremner, Stephen's youngest son.
