Armed siege at Castletown continues

The man at the centre of a 24-hour siege in Castletown has posted video content on Facebook Live as he speaks to armed officers on the street.

The video appears to be shot from the first floor of a house and two armed police can be seen in full gear while two others with armoured vests and helmets but wearing casual clothes negotiate with him.

Video footage shared on Facebook Live showed armed police on the street outside the property.

The video runs for 3 minutes and 40 seconds and by the end, no resolution appeared to be reached by either party. The man says he is not armed and is believed to be in the house alone with his dog.

The incident has drawn a huge police presence to Castletown and was still ongoing at 2pm today (November 5).

Diversions have been set up in the village so that vehicles can bypass the western side of Main Street where the house is under surveillance by numerous officers. Alternative routes are in place to connect parts of the A836 affected.

This morning, Inspector Kay Macrae said: "Around 12.25pm on Monday, 4 November, 2024, we were called after concern was raised for a man within a house on Coronation Place, Castletown.

“Officers and negotiators are in attendance."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said yesterday: “We received a call at 2.19pm to attend an incident in Castletown.

“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene.”
