A long-serving member of staff at a Thurso care home was “surprised and delighted” by a retirement party held in her honour.

Much-loved laundry assistant Annie McArthur called it a day after 26 years of continuous service at Pentland View. Staff and residents gave Annie a heartfelt send-off after her last shift with a boozy tea party, gifts and a contribution for her retirement travel fund.

Activities coordinator Jeanine Sinclair said: “Everyone at the home has very fond memories of Annie and she will be greatly missed.

“Annie was surprised and delighted with her party, which was attended by residents and their families and the staff.

“Amid the pouring of cocktails and munching of tasty treats prepared by the kitchen, Annie was able to chat with and say her farewells to the people that she has meant so much to over the years. Through smiles and tears, she enjoyed her special afternoon.”

Jeanine added: “During her time at Pentland View, Annie has looked after the residents and their laundry with care and a bright smile, always having time for a chat with the residents and their families. These interactions can always brighten someone’s day, and Annie was very good at doing just that.”

Pentland View is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers. Pentland View provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 46 residents, from respite care to long-term stays.
