Little Amy Smith from Lyth has donated all the money she received at her fifth birthday party on Sunday to a local health campaign group.

Mum Denise Smith said: “We’re really proud of her. Amy has raised over £300 already and there’s more to come.”

Denise explained that Amy had overheard her talking with husband Stuart about the issues with mums-to-be travelling many miles outside the county to have their babies.

“We’d been looking at the Caithness Health Action Team [Chat] page on Facebook and talking about it. Amy wanted to know more so we explained to her how she was born in the Wick hospital but there were loads of babies who would have to be born in Inverness now.”
