Aidan's canny poster message praised by First Minister
Nicola Sturgeon has given her personal seal of approval to a public safety message created by an 11-year-old Caithness boy.
Aidan Ferrier, a P7 pupil at Watten Primary School, designed a coronavirus lockdown poster with the catchy phrase: “Be Cautious, Be Careful, Be Canny.”
It was part of a task set for Watten's P4-7 class by their teacher Jennifer Henderson.
One of the options was to produce a poster promoting a new key message as Scotland entered phase one of coming out of lockdown. This was at the time when Prime Minister Boris Johnston announced that the message being promoted in England had changed to “Stay Alert”.
Aidan's mum, Nicola Ferrier, sent a photo of his poster to the First Minister and they were delighted to receive an email in response.
Ms Sturgeon told Aidan: “Your poster is very colourful and eye-catching. It is great to see that you are passionate about making people aware of the important messages of keeping ourselves and others safe during lockdown. Be Cautious, Be Careful, Be Canny is a very important message during these times which I am sure we can all learn from.
“Thank you for helping to promote and spread this message – your poster definitely demonstrates this.”
Head teacher Linsey Mackay said: "This has been a very valuable learning experience for Aidan. His message is very catchy and so relevant in our current situation.
“We are pleased that this was recognised by Nicola Sturgeon and we are delighted that Aidan received a personalised response."
