A very "local, small-scale, and low risk presentation" that has had four star reviews from various media outlets is coming to Lyth Arts Centre.

After a ten-year break, Nutshell Theatre is delighted to be touring its 2011 Fringe First winner Allotment across Scotland in August and September. This is a brand new version of the show drawing on original elements but in a new production.

The production by Jules Horne is performed by Gowan Calder and Nicola Jo Cully and directed by Kate Nelson. Join sisters Dora and Maddy in their allotment as they ponder: Do flowers matter as much as vegetables? Allotment follows their complex and quirky relationship as they live out the seasons and play out their rivalries among the plants. When the unexpected rocks their uneasy balance, it’s time to do something radical.

With changeable weather constantly shifting their mood and nature, Allotment is a feast for the senses – a tale of life, death, Pink Fir Apple potatoes, and the secret power of worms.

The production will go on whatever the weather, "so come prepared," say the organisers. They added: "With COP26 scheduled for Glasgow later in the year, conversations with Scottish audiences in 2021 about the symbiosis of people and the natural world seem particularly apt; and the very human need for connection to community which lies at the heart of Allotment is at the centre of current discourse about individual isolation and community dislocation which has been caused by the events of the last 18 months."

Nutshell is able to bring theatre to people rather than asking them to cross the threshold of buildings or venture too far from home. This will reassure existing audiences after a long period of social isolation, and welcome new theatregoers because its very local, small-scale, and low risk presentation offering gentle steps to new engagement.

“Nutshell’s production is a grow-your-own treat,” said the four story review from The List. “…a sensual experience for the audience,” said The Telegraph.

Allotment is on at Lyth Arts Centre on Friday, September 3 at 2pm and 4pm and is priced at £12 per bubble (up to five people).
