Abbie Douglas becomes Wick's first female firefighter

Almost 30 years after women were allowed to become firefighters the Wick Community Fire Station has its first female on the crew.

Abbie Douglas, who works in Tescos,Wick, has along with two male colleagues, completed their initial training and was available for call out as from last Thursday evening.

Thurso had their first woman recruit 28 years ago and have had several women on the crew over the years, while Dunbeath and John O'Groats have also had female firefighters on call.

Abbie's two colleagues, electrician Sean Stewart and plumber Graeme Sinclair bring the Wick station up to its full quota of 20 firefighters.
