One of the busiest roads in Caithness was closed for several hours yesterday following a two-car crash.

The A99 was closed at the Whaligoe Steps following the collision, which occurred at around 2.40pm.

Police said that "emergency services" attended the scene, and a diversion was put in place from the A9 at Latheron and A882 at Wick.

In an update last night at 9.03pm, Traffic Scotland confirmed the road had reopened.

There was no immediate word on whether there were any injuries.
