A Wick man who refused to identify the driver of a car involved in an accident was fined £400 at Wick Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Adrian Stubbings (30) was also put off the road for four months after he pleaded guilty.
When spoken to by the police on July 5, last year, Stubbings replied: “No comment.” The damaged vehicle, which belonged to someone else, was found at Newton Hill, near Wick.
Addressing Stubbings, of Macrae Street, Wick, Sheriff Neil Wilson commented: “This was a deliberate attempt to avoid prosecution. Either you were driving the car or you knew who was.”
