When spoken to by the police on July 5, last year, Stubbings replied: “No comment.” The damaged vehicle, which belonged to someone else, was found at Newton Hill, near Wick.

Addressing Stubbings, of Macrae Street, Wick, Sheriff Neil Wilson commented: “This was a deliberate attempt to avoid prosecution. Either you were driving the car or you knew who was.”
