Partnership programme manager Eann Sinclair says the county is moving in the right direction.

MORE than £50 million has been earmarked for investment in the Caithness economy, according to the programme manager for the Caithness and North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership.

Eann Sinclair told members of the Thurso and Wick Trade Union Council that investment in Scrabster harbour plus funding allocated for North Highland College, a new Wick High School and the upgraded council buildings in Wick amounted to over £50m.

"We are moving in the right direction and I feel more positive about where we are now compared to where we were this time last year," said Mr Sinclair.

He pointed out that while there are problems in the local economy, companies are winning renewable energy contracts. "We are making the right connections and working together," he said.

The partnership, it was claimed, is laying "the foundations for the future."

Speaking at last Wednesday night’s meeting of the trade union council, chairman Derrick Milnes said the various bodies involved in the regeneration initiative have to "work together for the benefit of Caithness and to put the county on the map".
