The A9 was closed at Dunrobin Castle for a short time following a crash early on Thursday afternoon.

The collision involved two cars and occurred shortly before 12.20pm.

Police Scotland confirmed that emergency services were called to the scene at 12.18pm and initially advised motorists to use an alternative route.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said two of its appliances were sent to the scene at 12.28pm, but only one had arrived on site by the time they were stood down at 12.44pm.

Traffic Scotland, meanwhile, in an update shortly after 1pm, confirmed that the road had initially been shut in both directions as a result of the crash and urged motorists to "please avoid the area, if possible". The road had partially reopened by the time of a further update at 1.40pm and, by the time Traffic Scotland posted one final update at 2.29pm, the road was clear and vehicles were flowing smoothly.

It is not known if anyone was hurt in the crash.
