THE new £20 million nuclear archive at Wick airport will open to the public this week.

There will be a preview event tonight with the doors open to the public tomorrow.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) provided the funding for the building which will collect and store records from nuclear sites all over the UK. It will also house the Caithness Archive. The building is to be called Nucleus.

A spokeswoman for the NDA said: “The preview event on the evening of the 13th is for invited stakeholders, particularly those who used the Caithness Archive in its old home at the Carnegie building.

“From then on it will be business as usual. There will be an official opening later in the year.”
