TWO men are claiming that they will be the first gay couple in Caithness to get married under a law passed three years ago.
Neil Power (36) and David Mackinnon (31) have been engaged for five years and will get hitched in Wick Town Hall on Thursday.
Mr Power, who has been acting as Mr Mackinnon’s carer, said: “As far as we know this is Wick’s first gay marriage and possibly the first in the county.”
Legislation passed by the Scottish Government in December 2014 meant same sex couples could get legally married and enjoy the same rights as a husband and wife.
After the wedding ceremony, the couple are to hold a reception at the Y-Not bar in Thurso.
Mr Power has been a carer for his fiancé who suffers from Klinefelter’s syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects his ability to communicate.
