Caithness Cycling Club’s first two 10-mile time trials of the season both had to contend with cold temperatures, strong winds and showers.

The course also had to be switched to the slower Shebster course due to traffic lights on the Watten road.

In week one, just two riders faced timekeeper John Falconer. With a temperature of just 8C, and 15 to 30 mph winds, Alistair Miller clocked 29 min 32 sec while Gary Angus recorded 32 min 25 sec.

Conditions for week two were even worse, with a temperature of 6C, northwest winds of 21 to 35 mph, showers of rain and again just two stalwarts – Alistair Murray, who battled the elements to record 30 min 33 sec, and Roger Broughton, who clocked 34 min 46 sec.

Next week should see a return to the usual Watten road course and riders should assemble at the Thurso cemetery car park by 7.15pm for the 7.30 start.
