Fantastic scoring as Reay course sees plenty of footfall

The fairways at Reay have seen a lot of footfall over the past week with several competitions being held.

The women’s May Medal saw some fantastic scoring with the in-from Rebecca Munro pipping Laura Bain to first place by a single shot.

Munro took the victory thanks to a score of 76 for nett 65, with a red-hot inward half of 36 which included birdies at the 13th and 18th holes proving crucial in the final analysis.

Bain also fired a brace of birdies, at the fourth and 15th, during her round of 81 for a fine nett 66 and second place. Sarah Meiklejohn completed the podium places, taking third after a round of 86 for nett 73 which included a solitary birdie at the fourth.

In the latest North Point Distillery Senior Stableford action, David A Craig finished at the top of the leaderboard after a fine tally of 37 points which was boosted by a birdie at the 16th.

Willie Williamson and Malcolm Clasper were next best after both carded solid rounds of 35 points, with a solitary birdie at the sixth providing the highlight of Clasper’s round.

Midweek golf for the men is also back on the agenda, with round one of the ARC Summer Cup played in windy weather. Youngster Owen Bain mastered the conditions the best to win on a score of 34 points, ahead of Ian Ross and Malcolm Thomson who both had steady rounds for 33 points.

The Split Stane Texas Pairs saw some spectacular scoring with countback required to determine the victors. In the final analysis brothers James and Jack Halliday bagged the silverware when a fine round of 72, which included birdies at the 15th and 17th holes, gave them a nett 60.

Rebecca and Ross Munro fired no fewer than seven birdies during a tremendous round of 62 for nett 60 and second place. Andy Bain and Andrew Taylor finished third after birdies at the sixth, eighth and 10th helped them to a round of 68 for nett 63.

In the women’s Centenary Bowl greensomes competition, Pam Bain and Joy Fraser produced a fine round of 90 for nett 67 to win by a margin of two shots. A birdie at the fifth helped Jean Clasper and Su Hawes to second place on nett 69, while Alison Ross and Eileen Manson completed the podium places after their round of 87 gave them a nett 70.

This week will see the men competing for the Nuvia May Medal, while the women will be in Summer Stableford action.
