Macduff heritage centre plan scuppered

By Graham Crawford

A BID to establish a heritage centre at the site of the recently closed Harbour Cafe at Macduff Harbour has fallen at the first hurdle.

The wooden building closed a few weeks ago after owner Agnes Bain retired. It is now set to be demolished and the site returned to the ground owner, Aberdeenshire Council.

Banffshire Maritime & Heritage Association quickly recognised that the premises would be ideal as a small heritage centre.

Association secretary Stanley Bruce explained: "We thought it would be a focal point for Macduff which would encourage visitors to stop rather than driving through.

"We feel the town is an undiscovered gem that just needs some help to remove the idea that it is being allowed to run down following the closure of businesses."
