The events on Saturday and Sunday, run in conjunction with the Eden Court Body Currents team, will see sessions held in Scrabster Hall and Wick Assembly Rooms. Simon, who is a member of Scottish breakdancing crew Heavy Smokers, has competed and performed all over the UK and Europe, including at Breakin Convention, the UK's biggest hip-hop dance event. He will be joined by Body Currents dance leaders Juta Campbell and Jill Kingdon. Jill said this week: "It's incredible to have Simon working with us on this workshop. He is a great dancer and has plenty of experience in street dance. The workshops are open to all ages and all abilities so we are hoping we will have plenty of folk come along and join in." Body Currents is based in four Highland areas - Skye and Lochalsh, Caithness, Badenoch and Strathspey, and Lochaber - and is an Eden Court outreach programme. There is a full timetable of events and workshops taking place throughout the spring and summer terms and, as with all of the Body Currents projects, the Caithness residency will culminate in a spectacular performance with local dancers, musicians and activities later this year. The local dance spectacular is scheduled to take place at Lybster harbour on June 4 and 5. The timetable for the street dance weekend is as follows - Saturday, Scrabster Hall: 11am to 12.30pm, six to eight years, two classes; 12.30pm to 1.30pm, adults (18-plus) one class; 2pm to 4.30pm, nine to 17 years (three classes). Sunday, Wick Assembly Rooms: 11am to 12.30pm, six to eight years, two classes; 12.30pm to 1.30pm, adults (18-plus) one class; 2pm to 3.30pm, nine to 17 years (two classes). The cost is £1 per class for under-18s and £1.50 per class for over-18s. |
