MEN and women from local churches have been working in harmony to help mission work by producing a CD. They were in fine voice for a recent recording session at which they sang psalms to go along with scripture readings and a prayer on the disc, which is now on sale.

The idea for the musical fundraiser came from the ladies of Castletown Free Church as part of their Women for Missions initiative. They asked their neighbouring congregations to support them and were delighted when 24 folk turned up for the practice sessions, with 21 being available for the actual recording session. . The Rev Howard Stone led the group through all the psalm-singing, helping with phrasing, diction and dynamics.. The outcome the group was hoping for was to produce a good standard of heartfelt, congregational singing, and the final product exceeded expectations. . The group members themselves admit that the singing is not perfect, but they believe the CD does provide the unique sound of a group of enthusiastic and committed psalm singers. The CD contains 10 psalms, four scripture readings and a closing prayer.. All the singers and readers are from the Caithness and Sutherland area. The recording was done at the Castletown Free Church by a local professional who captured everything in one evening. The CD was then copied professionally, again using a local contact.. Copies of Caithness Psalmsingers are available from Christine Stone on 01847 821321 and Ann Manson on 01955 641263. " " |
